Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, the Y had to close its doors to members on March 16, 2020 but that did not stop the Crochet Club from continuing to meet and create handmade items for those in need. Our club participants were among the first Y members to use Zoom to stay connected and keep engaged. Between March and May of 2020, we made 170 purple hats in support of the Click for Babies campaign by Prevent Child Abuse NJ. Since the Y was not open, members dropped off their completed hats in bins outside the Y. This educational campaign provides parents with vital information about the “period of purple crying” and Shaken Baby Syndrome, and the babies are sent home with a handmade purple cap.
